Chemistry Fairs, Symposiums, and Competitions!

  • Chemathon The Chemathon is an annual chemistry competition for high school chemistry students in Maryland, Northern Virginia, and the District of Columbia. The Chemathon competition is organized by a committee of area high school chemistry teachers and chemists, and is hosted by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Maryland at College Park.


  • Intel Science Talent Search Micro-processor giant Intel is the sponsor of this nationwide competition—America’s oldest and most highly regarded precollege science contest.


  • Intel International Science and Engineering Fair The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) is the Olympics, the World Cup and the World Series of science competitions.


  • The Junior Science and Humanities Symposium- caters to students conducting original research investigation in the sciences, and is a symposium that is sponsored by universities or other academic institutions.


  • Prince George's County Area Science Fair A regional fair that showcases winning science projects from all of the schools in Calvert, Charles, Saint Mary's, and Prince George's counties.


  • ACS Chemistry Olympiad The U.S. National Olympiad (USNCO) is a multi-tiered competition designed to stimulate and promote achievement in high school chemistry.


  • Science Olympiad The Science Olympiad is devoted to improving the quality of science education, increasing student interest in science and providing recognition for outstanding achievement in science education by both students and teachers.


  • Siemens Westinghouse Science & Technology Competition serves to foster individual growth for high school students who are willing to challenge themselves through science research.


  • The Discovery Young Scientist Challenge is the only science contest of its kind for students in grades 5-8, fostering the exploration, understanding and communication of science among America's youth.
