Beginning in July 2021, the Taylor group will use the tools of coordination chemistry and organic synthesis to design novel materials, including metal–organic frameworks, covalent organic frameworks, and porous polymers. We will study these materials for applications in water purification, precious metal extraction from seawater, and ion conductivity in batteries. Our research will leverage synthetic control over the internal structure of porous materials to achieve selectivity for desired guest molecules and to create pathways for fast ion transport. Students in the Taylor group will receive extensive training in organic and inorganic synthesis as well as a wide range of materials characterization techniques.
