Research Interests

Nuclear Chemistry/Physics; Scientific Computing

Investigation into understanding the behavior of nuclear matter at extreme density (pressure) and temperature (energy). This involves experiments at large colliders of protons or ions at relativistic energies. Probing the hot, dense matter (quark-gluon plasma) created with jets (collimated spray of final particles created from a high transverse momentum parton). Large scale scientific computing and system administration.

Professional Societies

American Chemical Society (ACS), American Physical Society (APS)

Major Recognitions and Honors

  • Award for Undergraduate Research Creighton University, 1994
  • Colorado State University Fellowship, 1994
  • Council on Undergraduate Research grant, 1993 (STAR experiment)
  • Science and Engineering Research Semester, 1993 (Argonne National Lab, Illinois)

Publications

Tonjes is the co-author of 235 refereed journal publications and the author (representing the experiment) of 6 published proceedings.
