Grant FAQS

1. How do I submit a research proposal?
  • Once you have decided to submit a proposal , please contact Carl Womack, who will work with you to prepare the budget and coordinate the proposal submission. Please allow a reasonable amount of time for proposal submission (ideally 2-3 weeks from budget development to proposal submission). The Office of Research Administration and Advancement requires a minimum of 5 days prior to due date for processing.

2. What is the cost for a graduate research assistant (GRA)?

  • In accord with the College's policy on stipend levels for GRA's:
    1. Step I GRA - $22,779
    2. Step II GRA - $23,714
    3. Step III GRA - $24,212

Health benefits are estimated at 25-30% of the total salary. Tuition remission maximum is for 32 credits/year, 10 in the fall and spring semesters and 4 credits in the winter and 8 credits for summer. The current charge for graduate credit is $471.

3. How much can a faculty member request for his salary on a research proposal?

  • If a faculty member has a 12-month appointment he/she can request up to 25% of their salary from research funds. If a faculty member is paid on more than one research account, 25% of their salary is the maximum that can be paid among the various research accounts.
    Faculty members with a 9-month or 9.5-month appointment can request up to three months or 2.5 months of their academic year salary respectively from research funding. The one exception is NSF, which will only allow a maximum 2 months summer salary to be paid from NSF awards.
