Travel FAQS
1. What is considered local travel?
- University business conducted in the metropolitan area, which includes all of Maryland, Northern Virginia (Fairfax and Loudoun counties) and Washington D.C. is considered local travel and requires travel approval only when there is an overnight stay.
2. What are the meal per diems? Are receipts required?

3. Can I be reimbursed for business travel using my personal vehicle?
- For domestic travel, meal expenses will normally be reimbursed on per diem rates. Receipts are not required when utilizing per diem. Additional reimbursement is not appropriate if a meal has been pre-paid as part of a conference, hotel free breakfast plan or the like. Alcoholic beverages are not reimbursable.
