Welcome to the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry of the University of Maryland. The Department integrates the Biological Sciences with the Physical Sciences and Engineering in research and teaching. As the principal home for biophysics and biochemistry on campus, the department is the link to biology and bioengineering. As molecules are the basis for nanoscience, the department is an essential unit in the development of nanostructured materials and in the rise of nano-bio-science and technology on campus.
Our undergraduate program is innovative, directed to the career needs of our students, and provides opportunities for extracurricular and research activities.
